Video Hardware/Software Response

1. My overall experience with the Olympus camera was great because I have a digital camera that I received three years ago. This camera is comparable to the Olympus camera, which made it easier to work with and get used to. The directions with the camera were straightforward, and I had no problems using the features on this camera. In an ideal world, my camera would be small and easy to carry so I could have it on me at all times, but still be able to get a great picture quality and capture sounds from much further distances while taking videos.

2. I had no history using this software at all so it was difficult to get used to at first. The reason I chose this specific software was because of the comments I had heard from others about how easy it was to use after understanding how to work it. This software was able to capture the images I wanted when I was on my sound walks. I will use this software in the future for my projects because I now understand how to use the software and am used to the different specific functions.

My ten questions

1. Where can I found an off road site in Milwaukee?
2. What differences are there between a lake and river?
3. Does cold water have a different sound then warm water?
4. How many weird sites are there in my area that I have no idea exist?
5. Where can I find a body of water that’s not Lake Michigan?
6. Can I find a bee hive that I can leave my microphones by?
7. Are all forests different?
8. Is rain noise better then when it’s dry out?
9. Where is the weirdest place within my map?
10. How many people can find the perfect sounds?

Drift Assignment

1. Describe two situations that aggravated, bothered, shocked or otherwise stressed you during Drift 1. (Please note that the situation CANNOT be technology-related.)

The first situation that bothered me during drift 1, was that every time I had a sound that I liked, I would move the microphones to much, or people would be talking around me.

The Second situation was that I just wish we had more time to meet with a teacher. I know there was three help sessions, I just think maybe the night before it was due, there could have been an hour help session if anyone was desperate like myself.

2. Describe, with details, two situations during Drift 1 in which you felt unusually peaceful, at ease, or contemplative.

The first had to be my water fountain recording. I put it on my drift because of the fact that it is so peaceful.

The second was just walking alone for a long period of time. I never get a chance to do that, and it was really nice.

3. Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Drift and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)

Well for me, I would have to say all of the electronic or computerized devices that we needed were a huge pain in the butt for me. I truly believe I spent more time on this project then anybody because of how long it took me to understand some of the material.

The next surprise I had would have to be some of the long and extended sounds that I heard. I didn’t think that the microphones were that great to pick up sounds well after the fact of what I wanted.

And lastly I had an unexpected situation. I was walking towards the lake and I say this alley and heard a weird noise, so I went to check it out and found this noise that was perfect.

4. Describe your favorite experience, situation, place, or recollection from your Drift. Be specific about what happened, how you felt, how you reacted, and why you think this particular experience affected you so much.

With out a dought it was the Water Fountain noise I picked up, I just had so much piece and quite that I felt like there was no worries in the world. This particular experience affected me in such a great way that I think I will go out and enjoy more walks.
